THE CHERRY ON THE CAKE

MEANING:- Something that makes something that is already good even better, or perfect char chand lagana (चार चाँद लगाना)

EXAMPLES:-

• The fabulous weather on the day is the cherry on the cake.
• Aaj ke mausam ne char chand laga diye.
• आज के मौसम ने चार चांद लगा दिए।

 

• For his career, the Olympic games will be the cherry on the cake.
• Uske career me Olympics chaar chand laga denge.
• उसके करियर में ओलिंपिक चार चांद लगा देंगे।

 

• This garden is not our main reason for buying this house but it is the cherry on the cake.
• Ye garden iss Ghar ko lene ka main reason nhi hai lekin iski sundarta ne chand chaar laga diye.
• ये गार्डन इस घर को लेने का मुख्य कारण नहीं है लेकिन इसकी सुंदरता ने चांद चार लगा दिया।

 

• The car is faster than Ferrari but the cherry on the cake is the price.
• Ye gadi ferari se tej to hai hi lekin is k daam ne chaar chand laga diye.
• ये गाड़ी फेरारी से तेज तो है ही लेकिन है के दाम ने चार चांद लगा दिया।

• Tournament jeetkar usne chaar chand laga diye.
• टूर्नामेंट जीतकर उसने  चार चांद लगा दिया।

 

• The signing-on bonus for my new job was the cherry on the cake.
• Bonus ne meri job me char chand laga diye.
• बोनस ने मेरी जॉब में चार चांद लगा दिए।

THE DROWNING MAN CATCHES A STRAW

MEANING:- someone who is in a very difficult situation, and who will take any available opportunity to improve it; Dubte ko tinke ka sahara; (दुबटे को तिंके का सहारा)

EXAMPLES:-

• Although there was no possibility of success, he tried this interview to get a job because a drowning man catches a straw.
• Halaki safal hone ki sambhavna nhi thi lekin usne iss job ke liye koshish ki kyuki ek dubte aadmi ko tinke ka sahara hota hai.
• हलकी सफल होने की संभावना नहीं थी लेकिन उसे जारी करने का काम के लिए कोशिश की एक दुबे आदमी को टिंके का सहारा होता है।

 

• On the burning of all material because of fire, the insurance money was like a straw to a drowning man.
• Aag se sara maal jal Jane par Bima ki rakam us k liye dubte ko tinke ka sahara thii.
• आग से सारा माल जल जाने पर बीमा की रैकम हमें के लिए दुबते को तिनके का सहारा थी।

 

• A little help from his neighbors for his operation was like a straw for a drowning man.
• Us ke operation ke liye thodi thodi madat uske liye dubte ko tinke ka sahara jaise thi.
• उसके  ऑपरेशन के लिए थोड़ी थोड़ी मदद उसके लिए दुबते को तिनके का सहारा जैसे थी।

 

• If that boy didn’t come I would die, it’s true a drowning man catches at a straw
• Agar wo ladka nahi ata to Mai marr jata satch kaha dubte ko tinke ka sahara batcha leta hai.
• अगर वो लड़का नहीं आता तो मैं मर जाता सच कहा दुबते को तिनके का सहारा देता है।
