CONJUNCTION: संयोजन
These are words that join together other words or group of words to convey information or a meaning.
ये ऐसे शब्द हैं जो सूचना या अर्थ को संप्रेषित करने के लिए दूसरे शब्दों या शब्दों के समूह को एक साथ जोड़ते हैं।
There are generally 3 types of conjunctions:
1. Coordinating Conjunction:(कोऑर्डिनेटिंग कंजंक्शन)
A coordinating conjunction joins two or more words, clauses, or sentences to put forth an idea, information, or even a question.
एक कोऑर्डिनेटिंग कॉम्बिनेशन दो या दो से अधिक शब्दों, क्लॉज या वाक्यों को जोड़कर एक विचार, जानकारी या एक प्रश्न भी प्रस्तुत करता है।
Examples:
His two favorite sports are cricket and badminton.
उनके दो पसंदीदा खेल क्रिकेट और बैडमिंटन हैं।
I wanted to go to the shopping mall but mom refused.
मैं शॉपिंग मॉल जाना चाहता था लेकिन माँ ने मना कर दिया।
Would you rather have noodles or pasta for dinner?
क्या आप रात के खाने में नूडल्स या पास्ता खाना पसंद करेंगे?
I don’t like cats yet I have two of them.
मुझे बिल्लियाँ पसंद नहीं हैं फिर भी मेरे पास उनमें से दो हैं।
I am a vegan so I don’t eat any kind of dairy products.
मैं शाकाहारी हूं इसलिए मैं किसी भी तरह के डेयरी उत्पाद नहीं खाता हूं।
Jane will be late to work for she is stuck in traffic.
जेन को काम करने में देर हो जाएगी क्योंकि वह ट्रैफिक में फंस गई है।
Steve doesn’t know swimming nor does he enjoy cycling.
स्टीव तैरना नहीं जानते और न ही उन्हें साइकिल चलाना पसंद है।
2. Subordinating Conjunction:(अधीनस्थ संयोजन)
It links an independent clause to a dependent clause to clarify the cause of the independent clause.
यह एक स्वतंत्र खंड को एक आश्रित खंड से जोड़ता है, स्वतंत्र खंड के कारण को स्पष्ट करने के लिए।
Examples:
I don’t want to go to the movies because I hate the smell of popcorn.
मैं फिल्मों में नहीं जाना चाहता क्योंकि मुझे पॉपकॉर्न की गंध से नफरत है।
I paid Jane whose design work is top-notch.
मैंने जेन को भुगतान किया जिसका डिजाइनिंग का काम शीर्ष पायदान पर है।
As soon as the alarm goes off I hit the snooze button.
जैसे ही अलार्म बजता है मैंने स्नूज़ बटन दबा दिया।
After the terrace flooded, we spent all day cleaning up.
छत पर पानी भर जाने के बाद हमने सारा दिन सफाई में बिताया।
When the doorbell rang my dog barked loudly.
जब दरवाजे की घंटी बजी तो मेरा कुत्ता जोर से भौंकने लगा।
3. Correlative Conjunction:(कोरिलेटिव कंजंक्शन)
Pair of words that correlate two equally important clauses to convey or know something.
शब्दों की जोड़ी जो कुछ बताने या जानने के लिए दो समान रूप से महत्वपूर्ण खंडों से संबंधित है।
Examples:
She is both intelligent and smart.
वह बुद्धिमान और स्मार्ट दोनों है।
He is not only talented but also very soft-spoken.
वह न केवल प्रतिभाशाली हैं, बल्कि बहुत मृदुभाषी भी हैं।
Jenny is neither intelligent nor kind.
जेनी न तो बुद्धिमान है और न ही दयालु।
I will either go shopping or spend the day listening to music.
मैं या तो खरीदारी के लिए जाऊंगा या संगीत सुनने में दिन बिताऊंगा।
The food is both spicy and tasty.
भोजन मसालेदार और स्वादिष्ट दोनों है।
Have you made up your mind whether to study History or Geography?
क्या आपने अपना मन बना लिया है कि इतिहास का अध्ययन करें या भूगोल का?
No sooner had I put my raincoat away than it started raining.
जैसे ही मैंने अपना रेनकोट दूर रखा था, बारिश शुरू हो गई थी।
Practice Exercise:
Identify the conjunctions as coordinating or subordinating.
संयोजनों को समन्वय या अधीनस्थ के रूप में पहचानें।
He will succeed if he works harder.
अगर वह कड़ी मेहनत करेगा तो वह सफल होगा।
Bread and Milk is a wholesome breakfast.
रोटी और दूध एक पौष्टिक नाश्ता है।
I can’t lend you a pencil for I have none.
मैं आपको कोई पेंसिल उधार नहीं दे सकता क्योंकि मेरे पास पेंसिल नहीं है।
She is smarter than her sister.
वह अपनी बहन से ज्यादा चालाक है।
We can travel by bus or train.
हम बस या ट्रेन से यात्रा कर सकते हैं।
He didn’t come because you didn’t invite him.
वह नहीं आया क्योंकि आपने उसे आमंत्रित नहीं किया था।
Give me some food, or else I shall die of hunger.
मुझे कुछ खाना दो नहीं तो मैं भूख से मर जाऊंगा।
Since you have apologized I am not angry with you anymore.
जब से तुमने माफ़ी मांगी है, मैं अब तुमसे नाराज़ नहीं हूँ।
I waited till she returned from the office.
मैंने उसके कार्यालय से लौटने तक प्रतीक्षा की।
You and I should leave now.
तुम्हें और मुझे अब चलना चाहिए।

Either….or, neither….nor, both….and, not only….but also, whether….or.
या तो…..या, न….और न ही, दोनों….और, न केवल….बल्कि, चाहे….या।

पूरी कक्षा या तो नाटक कर रही है या तो एक गीत रही है।
5. She has a maid for ____ washing clothes ____ cooking for her.
उसके पास दोनों कपड़े धोने के लिए और खाना बनाने के लिए एक नौकरानी है।
