‘About to’ phrase ka use future mein hone wale kisi immediate event ke context mein kiya jaata hai. Recent future mein hone wale kisi event ko dikhane ke liye ‘about to’ phrase ka use kiya jata hai. Use of ‘About To’ with Helping Verbs

With Modals

The phrase ‘about to’ can be used with different modal auxiliary verbs like may, might, and could. Given below are examples indicating the use of ‘about to’ with modal auxiliary verbs.

Sentence में ‘about to’ का इस्तेमाल अलग अलग modal auxiliary verbs जैसे may, might, and could के साथ भी किया जाता है। नीचे बताया गया है कि ‘about to’ को modal auxiliary verbs के साथ कैसे इस्तेमाल करना है।  

Example: I think my best might have been about to knock on the door.

                मुझे लगता है कि मेरा दोस्त शायद दरवाजे पर दस्तक देने वाला था।

            

                Neha has a feeling that she may be about to fall on the stairs.

                नेहा को लग रहा है कि वह सीढ़ियों पर गिरने वाली है। 

 

                According to his mother, Vijay could have been about to reject the job offer.

                उसकी मां के मुताबिक, विजय नौकरी के प्रस्ताव को ठुकरा सकता था।

 

With ‘Just’

The word ‘just’ is used before the phrase ‘about to’ to indicate the quickness of the action. It is used to indicate that something is going to happen very quickly. Given is the syntax for using ‘just’ with about to

किसी भी action की quickness को दिखने के लिए ‘about to’  से पहले ‘just’ शब्द का प्रयोग किया जाता है। इसका उपयोग यह दिखने के लिए किया जाता है कि कुछ बहुत जल्दी होने वाला है। नीचे ‘about to’ के साथ ‘just’ का इस्तेमाल करने के लिए सिंटैक्स दिया गया है:

Subject + helping verb + just + about to + verb1 + object + remaining sentence

Example: Arjun is just about to leave for the airport.

                अर्जुन एयरपोर्ट के लिए निकलने ही वाला है।

                They were just about to disconnect the interview call.

                 वे इंटरव्यू कॉल डिस्कनेक्ट करने ही वाले थे।

 

Where Not to Use ‘About To’

The phrase ‘about to’ is not used with the following tenses:

‘about to’ का इस्तेमाल नीचे दिए गए कुछ tenses के साथ नहीं किया जाता है:

1. Past Continuous Tense (Subject + was/ were + verb1 + ing + object)
2. Present Continuous Tense (Subject + is/ are/ am + verb1 + ing + object)
3. Future Continuous Tense (Subject + will/ shall  be + verb + ing + object)
4. Future Perfect Tense (Subject + will have/ shall have + verb3 + object)
5. Past Perfect Continuous Tense (Subject + had been + verb1 + ing + object + for/ since + time)
6. Present Perfect Continuous Tense (Subject + has been/ have been + verb 1 ing + object + since/ for + time)
7. Future Perfect Continuous Tense (Subject + will/ shall + have been + verb1 + ing + object + for/ from/ since + time)
