Spoken English ka sabse bada issue hota hai ki learners ko ke woh padh toh pate hain lekin bol nahi pate hain.
Lack of vocabulary is the main reason that learners are not able to speak English.

Ye idioms आपकी help कर सकते हैं आपकी daily life में और इसे आप अपने किसी भी competitive exam में भी use कर सकते हैं और इसके examples आपको help करेंगे अगर आप SSC की तैयारी कर रहे हैं।

Idioms:-

1. Give oneself airs – To be arrogant, abhimani hona ya ghamandi hona (घमंडी होना)

EXAMPLE:-

• Uski izzat nahi hoti kyunki wo abhimani hai.
• He is not respected because he gives himself airs.
• उसकी इज्जत नहीं होती क्योंकि वो अभिमानी है।

2. Give up the ghost – To die, marna (मरना)

EXAMPLE:-

• Mahatma Gandhi gave up the ghost in no time when he was shot.
• Jab Mahatma Gandhi ko goli maari gayi thi to woh turant hi mar gaye thee.
• जब महात्मा गाँधी को गोली मारी गई थी तो वो तूरंत ही मर गए थे।

3. Burn the candles at both ends – To spend money very quickly, tezi se paisa kharch karna, (तेज़ी से खर्च करना)

EXAMPLE:-

• After the death of his father, he burnt the candles at both ends and now he is penniless.
• Apni pita ji ki mrityu ke baad usne bahut tezi se paisa kharch kiya aur ab uske pass ek rupaya bhi nahi hai.
• अपनी पिता जी की मृत्यु के बाद उसने बहुत तेजी से पैसा खर्च किया और अब उसके पास एक रूपया भी नहीं हैं।

4. Burn the midnight oil – To work hard day and night, din aur raat mehnet karna, (दिन और रात मेहनत करना)

EXAMPLE:-

• When exams are near, students burnt the midnight oil.
• Jab exams pass hote hain, toh students din raat mehnet karte hain.
• जब परीक्षा पास होती हैं, तो छात्र दिन रात मेहनत करते हैं।

5. Be born with a silver spoon –  To be born into a rich family, kisi ammer parivar mein janam lena, (किसी अमीर परिवार में जनम लेना)

EXAMPLE:-

• He was born with a silver spoon in his mouth.
• Wo to ek paise wale parivaar mein paida hua hai .
• वो तो एक पैसे वाली परिवार में पैदा हुआ हैं।

6. (Get) by heart –  To memorize something, kisi cheez ko yaad karna, (किसी चीज़ को याद करना)

EXAMPLE:-

• You must get all the grammar rules by heart.
• Tumhein English grammar ke saare rules yaad kar lene chahiye.
• तुम्हें अंग्रेजी व्याकरण के सारे नियम याद कर लेने चाहिए।

7. Get the better of – To overcome, kisi cheez ke upar kabu paana, (किसी चीज़ के ऊपर काबू पाना)

EXAMPLE:-

• Try to get the better of your bad habits, otherwise, you will repent.
• Apni buri aadaton par kabo pao warna tumhein bahut pachtawa hoga.
• अपनी बुरी आदतों पर काबू पाओ वरना तुम्हें बहुत पछतावा होगा।

8. Give ears – To listen, kisi insaan ko dhyan se sunna, (किसी इन्सान को ध्यान से सुनने)

EXAMPLE:-

• Give ears to the advice of your teacher.
• Apni teacher ki advice ko dhyan se suno.
• अपनी टीचर की सलाह को ध्यान से सुनो।
