Could and Could Not: It is used to talk about abilities in the past, polite requests, and possibilities.

Could you wait for me?

He could not walk very fast when he was young.

Characteristics of Could and Could Not:

It expresses something that was to take place but did not happen. It also helps in forming sentences to make requests formally.

We couldn’t go to the cinema.

He couldn’t come because he had work.

He could manage to do the work because he is habituated.

He could have stayed in my house.
वह मेरे घर में रह सकता था।
- Which place could have been the best?
कौन सी जगह सबसे अच्छी हो सकती थी?
The place on the Eastern side could have been the best.
पूर्व दिशा में जगह सबसे अच्छी हो सकती थी।

He couldn’t understand what she said.
