What Are Honorifics? 

Jab aapko honorifics ka meaning nahi pata, toh unko theek tareeke se use karna bahut mushkil ho sakta hai. This is because you will not know where to use honorifics correctly. Par ghabrane wali koi baat nahi hai. Honorifics kuch aise words hote hain jo kisi ke liye respect jatane ke liye use kiye jaate hai. The use of honorifics is common all over the world. Ye dhyaan main rakhna bahut zaruri hai ki honorifics ka meaning in Hindi mein learn karna chahiye. This is because inn terms ka formal settings mein bahut use hota hai. For example, aapko agar kisi customer ko respectfully bulana ho, toh unko “Mr.,” “Ms.,” ya “Mrs.” bula sakte hain. Commonly Used Titles

 

Master 

The title “Master” is used for young men who are in adolescence. Iska matlab hota hai ki jo ladke umar mein chote hote hain unko “Master” title use karke address kiya jata hai. However, today, the use of this title has become uncommon. Pehle ke zamaane mein logo ko pata hota tha where to use “Master” because it was used regularly, but in modern times, ye term thoda kam use hota hai, isliye “Master” title ka meaning sabko nahi pata hota. Agar hum technically baat karein, toh British English mein “Master” title 16 years se younger boys ke liye use kiya jata hai. On the other hand, American English mein boys who are not more than 12 years of age are addressed as “Master”.

 

Mister (Mr.)

The use of “Mr.” is very common. Ye title men ke liye use kiya jata hai who are old enough to be considered adults. Aapne bahut baar notice kiya hoga ki “Mr.” is used for addressing your elder brother, father, grandfather, uncle, etc. Ye title formal settings mein bahut use kiya jata hai so that the person is identified as a male and given respect simultaneously. Messrs (M/s.) 

When there are multiple men being addressed together, the title “Messrs.” comes into play. Although ye title ka usage aajkal nahi hota, par aapko iska correct meaning pata hona zaruri hai. This is so, because “Messers.” ka short form “M/s.” hai jiska use family business owners ke names ke aage. You must have noticed a lot of shops where the title “M/s.” is used. Chaahe woh M/s. Madaan & Sons ho ya fir M/s. Ali & Sons, dono ka matlab same hai.

 

Mrs. 

Women who are married use the title “Mrs.”. Ye title shadi-shuda ladkiyon ke liye isliye use kiya jata hai, taaki unka marital status easily identify ho sake. This title is very helpful while filling out important forms and documents. “Mrs.” is strictly used for married women, so aisa nahi hai ki ek single ladki bhi isko use kar sakti hai. Bahut baar married men apni wife ko address karte hue bolte hai “ye meri Mrs. hai,” iska meaning hai ki “he is married to her”. If you are sending an invitation to a married couple, then writing the full name of the man along with Mr. and Mrs. is considered suitable.

 

Ms. 

“Ms.” is a title used for unmarried women. “Ms.” ka meaning zyadatar aapko ye batata hai ki ek ladki ki shaadi nahi hui ya fir woh divorcee hai. More commonly, young girls bhi Ms. term ko prefer karti hain apne full name ke aage. The use of “Ms.” is as common as “Mr.” as it helps one identify the gender of a person. For example, Ms. Sheetal Sharma Ms. Kiran Singh, etc. Inn names ke sath Ms. title isi liye lagaya gaya hai kyuki ye girls unmarried hai. When they get married, they will be addressed as Mrs. Sheetal Dixit and Mrs. Kiran Kumar, among other surnames.

 

Miss 

The meaning of “Ms.” and “Miss” is the same. However, “Miss” is commonly used to describe or address a teacher. Ye title ka usage convents and boarding schools mein zyada kiya jata hai. Ye habit humien Britishers ke Raj mein padhi isliye abhi bhi puraane schools mein teachers ko “Miss” bol kar address kiya jata hai. “Miss” is also used for girls who are participating in a beauty pageant. This is because only unmarried girls can be part of this type of competition. So, unke names ke pehle “Miss” title lagaya jata hai.

Mx. 

Mx. title ka meaning shayad aapko nahi pata hoga. This is a gender-neutral title used for people who do not see themselves as males or females. The use of Mx. is slowly becoming popular among people in the LGBTQ community who consider themselves gender fluid. Isi liye woh apne aap ko Mr. ya fir Ms. address nahi karwana chahte. Interestingly, yahan par X ka origin aaya hai math se jo ki ek unknown value hoti hai. So, this is the main reason behind “Mx.” being used as a gender-neutral title. Therefore, if you are unsure about where to use Mr., Mrs., or Ms., then you can use Mx.
