English Reading Activity 10: The “ATM Success” (Digital Banking & Safety)

Share

Paragraph Reading

Read the following passage carefully. Pay attention to the details.

Using an Automated Teller Machine, or ATM, is a convenient way to manage your money without visiting a bank branch. However, to use it successfully, you must be able to read the digital instructions on the screen. When you insert your card, the machine will first ask you to enter your PIN, which is a secret four-digit number. It is confidential, meaning you should never share it with anyone or write it down where others can see it.

Once your identity is verified, you will see a menu with several options. If you want to take out cash, select the 'Withdrawal' button. If you simply want to see how much money is left in your account, choose 'Balance Inquiry.' Before the machine gives you the cash, it might ask if you want a 'Receipt' for the transaction. Always remember to take your card and your money before leaving the cabin. For your safety, always look around to ensure no one is standing too close to you while you type your code. Being careful and reading each screen slowly is the best way to avoid mistakes and keep your hard-earned money safe.
